What is natural-light, on-location photography?

While shots are often set up and there is some posing, this type of photography is more relaxed than a typical studio session. Most often, on-location sessions are held where clients are most comfortable--in their own home! However, other popular alternatives include the park, downtown Jasper, or a family member's home. An on-location session is truly more personalized & unique than a traditional portrait session. In addition, there are no studio lights, cords, & big softboxes.......just me & my camera! I shoot exclusively by natural light. (Okay, I admit, sometimes I'm packing a host of props along. :- )

What should we wear for our session?

A: Don't worry about trying to perfectly match everyone's attire. A coordinated look works great (and is much easier to put together!). Bright, solid colors are excellent choices. It is best to avoid busy patterns, brand logos, and solid white clothing. I prefer to photograph newborns in their birthday suit/a diaper only as this is allows the focus to be entirely on the baby & all that newborn beauty. Ever notice how family & friends want to unwrap a baby to take in all those tiny details? Of course, I also love hats & will likely be incorporating those into many infant sessions. For babies 3 months and up, I typically like to do a mix of portraits both with and without clothing. For seniors, we'll have fun with wardrobe options and, for the girls, even break out the prom dress for one last hurrah!

Scheduling

I will be opening my books in late February for scheduling sessions in 2010. There will be a very limited number of sessions available! I will be making the scheduling announcement first to established clients and those on my email list and will then post the announcement here on the blog. If you would like to be added to my emailing list, email me at photographybylacey at verizon dot net.

About Me

I'm one of those people who have always loved photos. My sister likes to remind me of my early childhood attempts at pro-photography: a blanket "backdrop" hung from the clothesline. The resulting photos featuring her striking a cheesy pose in front of said "backdrop" are still good for a few laughs! I never considered a career in photography until after my husband and I bought our first home & spent most of our free time gardening. I loved walking the yard, taking photos of all the gorgeous blooms. (I actually have whole albums of such photos!) Then, our twins came along and I had two new little subjects. I gave more thought to pursuing photography after some friends asked me to take photos of their babies--and I had just a regular point-and-shoot camera at that time. In October 2008 I decided to invest in my first-ever DSLR camera and start self-teaching photography with the plan to launch my business two years later, Fall 2010, when my children enter Kindergarten. Due to many requests, I began accepting sessions in January 2009. It's been busy, busy, busy ever since! As a full-time Mom with two little ones at home, I'm only able to offer sessions on a very limited basis.
